What is a sliding scale fee?
At GPS Psychology & Anxiety Clinic, we believe money should never stand in the way of quality treatment.  It is our passion and policy to provide essential mental health services regardless of the patient’s financial circumstances. As such, we utilize a sliding scale fee, which is a variable price schedule for mental health services, dependent upon the patient’s ability to pay. For patients who do not have adequate or pre-approved insurance or who wish to choose self-pay options, discounts may be offered based upon household income and family size. Office staff will determine the best payment options to meet each individual’s needs. What are the self-payment options at the practicum clinic? Our office billing rate for therapy is $225 for the initial assessment visit and $120 for each subsequent visit (50-60 min. session). Other services and their rates are featured below. For those who cannot afford our billing rate or who do not have insurance, the following sliding scale is offered: SLIDING SCALE FEES Graduate Student Psychology Extender                         Are there additional veteran or student discounts? Veterans and full-time college students with valid ID cards qualify for special discounts on psychotherapy and health & wellness services. This discount does not extend to comprehensive psychological assessments. Our veteran/student discount schedule is as follows: Returning Veterans Program: Post 9/11 war zone veterans are eligible to receive 15 sessions of pro bono (i.e., free of charge) psychotherapy and health & wellness services. How do I accurately determine “income” and “household size”? Household income should include any earnings, unemployment compensation, workers’ compensation, Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, public assistance, veterans’ payments, survivor benefits, pension or retirement income, interest, dividends, income from estates, trusts, educational assistance, alimony, child support, assistance from outside the household, and other miscellaneous sources. (Noncash benefits, such as food stamps and housing subsidies do not count.) Household size (or family) is defined as:  a group of two people or more (one of whom is the householder) related by birth, marriage, or adoption and residing together; all such people (including related subfamily members) are considered as members of one family. What documentation is needed to qualify for the sliding scale? GPS Psychology & Anxiety Clinic trusts each patient to provide an accurate account of their individual circumstances, which is why we require no proof of income and apply the appropriate sliding scale fee based solely upon your word. Once authorization is given for an appropriate sliding scale amount, the discount will be honored for a period of four (4) months, after which the patient must reapply.
